In soccer, speed is not just about how fast you can run from point A to point B. There’s a lot of value in having fast feet in small spaces, with and without the ball. Becoming a faster soccer player isn’t just about speed, but if you’re working to improve your foot speed, we’re here to help!
Our Faster Feet In 7 Days training program begins tomorrow, 2/1 and runs until 2/7. Start a free trial in the Techne App to join and use code BLOG for 20% off your first purchase.
Here are some tips as you follow our program and work to get faster feet throughout the year:
- Move your fastest. To get faster, you have to train fast. Pushing yourself to your max speed is the only way to improve that max speed. If you’re training your foot speed with the ball, work right on the edge of pushing so hard you may make a mistake at any moment.
- Work in short intervals. Don’t try to maintain your fastest speed for too long. This can lead to fatigue, bad form, and actually cause you to get in the habit of moving slower. There’s certainly a time to push your endurance and stamina, but if you’re focused on fast feet, 10-30 seconds of work at top speed is ideal.
- Take full recovery. It’s best to work on your speed when you feel fresh. Train fast feet before any other training you plan to do, and after a thorough warm-up. It’s best to recover fully before sets or drills so that every time you work, you’re able to work at your fastest pace.
Train with and without the ball. Having fast feet can apply with and without the ball, and both are important. Our Faster Feet in 7 Days Training in the app encourages you to work on both.
